Somatic Symptom Disorder

somatic symptom disorder causes & treatments

Experts may reach a consensus that a person has somatic symptom disorder when the individual focuses too much on some physical discomfort such as pain, weakness of shortness of breath. The person then has too many thoughts, feelings and behaviours related to the symptom.

Symptoms

  •  Disproportionate and persistent thoughts about the seriousness of one’s symptoms
  •  Persistently high level of anxiety about health or symptoms
  •  Excessive time and energy devoted to these symptoms or health concerns

If any one of these tendencies persist for a period of six months, even if not continuously, the person may be in need of professional help.
